What the standards mean
Protective motorcycle clothing in Europe is tested to EN 17092. The standard has classes AAA, AA, A, B and C. AAA gives the highest abrasion protection and is aimed at fast road and track riding. AA and A suit road riding, and B and C cover lighter protection. Armor is tested separately to EN 1621, and Level 2 armor passes on less impact force than Level 1. We do not claim a rating for a product unless it is listed on that product page. Ask us which standard and armor level a piece meets before you rely on it.
Myth or fact
- Myth: Thicker leather is always better. Fact: Thickness helps abrasion resistance but adds weight and heat. The right balance depends on how you ride.
- Myth: Armor is the same everywhere. Fact: Armor differs in level and placement. Check what is listed for your suit.
- Myth: A tighter suit is a safer suit. Fact: A suit should be snug, but too tight restricts movement and pinches. It should fit your riding position without folds.
